Erasmus+ Forward-Looking Project • STREAM • Micro-credentials & Work-Based Learning

Some of the most important professional skills are developed where work actually happens. But how can we make those skills visible and recognised?

STREAM rethinks how Work-Based Learning is supported across Europe by developing a new micro-credential framework for VET trainers and company mentors who design, support and evaluate high-quality learning experiences in the workplace.

Learning does not only happen in the classroom.

It happens during traineeships, in workshops, in companies, through international mobility and whenever a learner is asked to put knowledge into practice.

However, for a Work-Based Learning experience to be genuinely meaningful, it needs professionals who know how to design it, support the learner, cooperate across organisations and countries, and respond to new digital, green and social requirements.

“Offering a traineeship is not enough. The goal is to create a genuine learning experience.” — the idea behind STREAM

From experience to competence — and from competence to recognition

STREAM creates a shared European pathway towards high-quality, flexible and recognisable Work-Based Learning.

1

We define the competences

The project identifies what VET trainers and company mentors need to know and be able to do in order to design and manage high-quality Work-Based Learning experiences.

2

We create learning

Required knowledge, skills and competences are transformed into structured learning content that supports the professional development of practitioners involved in WBL.

3

We recognise achievement

Through the Micro-Credential Framework, completion of specific learning pathways can be linked to recognised micro-credentials and digital competence badges.

4

We transfer knowledge

A shared European framework allows VET providers, companies and professionals from different countries to use a common language for quality and competence in Work-Based Learning.

Three dimensions. One modern approach to Work-Based Learning.

STREAM organises its competency framework around three areas that reflect key priorities of contemporary European vocational education and training.

🤝

Inclusive WBL

Competences that help trainers and mentors create inclusive learning environments, support diversity and manage intercultural and cross-sectoral experiences, particularly within international WBL mobility.

The VET trainer

A trainer does more than prepare a learner before a traineeship. The trainer helps connect the educational pathway with what the learner is about to experience in a real workplace.

This requires the ability to define learning objectives, cooperate with companies, respond to different learner needs and assess what the learner actually gains from the workplace experience.

The company mentor

In the workplace, an experienced professional can transform an everyday task into a meaningful learning opportunity.

STREAM therefore recognises company mentors as key actors in the learning process and strengthens the competences they need to guide learners, provide support and offer meaningful feedback.

A new European professional certificate

At the heart of STREAM is the development of a new Micro-Credential Framework under the title:

🎓 The European Professional Certificate for Practitioners in Inclusive, Digital and Green Work-Based Learning

The framework organises and recognises the knowledge, skills and competences required by professionals supporting high-quality Work-Based Learning experiences, creating a more flexible and comparable European approach.

From research to a framework designed to last

STREAM goes beyond the development of learning content. It creates tools that support the implementation and future use of micro-credentials in European WBL.

🧭

STREAM Blueprint

The Blueprint maps the required competences, micro-credentials and validation frameworks for inclusive, digital and green Work-Based Learning.

🎖️

Micro-Credential Framework

The framework provides the structure through which specific learning achievements can be assessed, certified, recognised and accumulated.

🏛️

Policy Recommendations

Project experience is translated into recommendations that support trust, awareness and the integration of micro-credentials at policy level.

🤝

Memorandum of Understanding

The Memorandum supports the continuation, adaptation and uptake of the STREAM Micro-Credential Framework beyond the lifetime of the project.

Thematic SAEK Egaleo within STREAM

Thematic SAEK Egaleo participates in the European STREAM partnership, contributing the perspective and experience of a public vocational education and training provider that works directly with learners, trainers and workplace learning.

Participation in STREAM connects directly with one of the most important roles of modern VET: building stronger bridges between education and companies and ensuring that workplace learning becomes a genuine part of learners’ professional development.

A skill becomes more valuable when it can be recognised.

STREAM contributes to a future in which workplace learning becomes more inclusive, digital, sustainable and reliable, and where smaller, clearly defined learning achievements can become visible through trusted European micro-credentials.

STREAM: from “I learned it at work” to “I can demonstrate what I learned”.

VET trainers, company mentors, businesses and European organisations work together towards Work-Based Learning that does more than provide experience: it develops recognised competences and stronger professional pathways.
